Memorial at the Frankfurt Grossmarkthalle

What is the Memorial at the Frankfurt Grossmarkthalle?

The Memorial at the Frankfurt Grossmarkthalle is part of the Jewish Museum Frankfurt and is located in the ECB’s main building. In a dark chapter of our building’s history, the cellar of the Grossmarkthalle was used during the Second World War as the assembly point for nearly 10,000 Jews, who were deported from there, by train, to concentration and extermination camps. The Memorial at the Frankfurt Grossmarkthalle serves as a reminder of this crime and the historical significance of the site.

How can I visit the Memorial?

You can visit the Memorial by signing up for a guided tour with the Jewish Museum Frankfurt.

Elsaesser Exhibition

What is the Elsaesser Exhibition?

The Grossmarkthalle was designed by the architect Martin Elsaesser and built between 1926 and 1928. The Elsaesser Exhibition housed inside is a tribute to his work and to the rich history of the Grossmarkthalle. Originally used as a wholesale market hall, it was once one of the largest building complexes in the city of Frankfurt, and also the world’s largest free-spanning reinforced concrete structure.

How can I visit the Elsaesser Exhibition?

You can visit the Elsaesser Exhibition by signing up for a guided tour organised by the Elsaesser Foundation. For more information about the Elsaesser Exhibition, visit Grossmarkthalle Frankfurt.
