Annual hard copy publication of the: List of Monetary Financial Institutions and institutions subject to minimum reserves as at the end of December 2001

The "List of Monetary Financial Institutions and institutions subject to minimum reserves" ("List of MFIs") is published by the European Central Bank (ECB) in accordance with Article 3.2 of the Regulation of the European Central Bank of 1 December 1998 concerning the consolidated balance sheet of the monetary financial institutions sector (ECB/1998/16)[^[1]], as amended, and Article 2.3 of the Regulation of the European Central Bank of 1 December 1998 on the application of minimum reserves (ECB/1998/15), as amended.

This publication relates to the Monetary Financial Institutions sector (MFI sector) as at the end of December 2001. The List of MFIs is published at the beginning of each calendar year; this is the fifth in the series.

The List of MFIs facilitates the production of a comprehensive and consistent balance sheet of the money-creating sector in the euro area and ensures that the information on the statistical reporting population is as complete, accurate and homogeneous as possible. The list of institutions subject to minimum reserves is based on Article 19.1 of the Statute of the European System of Central Banks and of the European Central Bank, which empowers the ECB to require credit institutions established in the euro area to hold minimum reserves in pursuance of monetary policy objectives.

For the first time, this publication will be made available under the item "Publications", in the "MFIs and assets" section of the ECB's website (http://www.ecb.europa.eu).

An updated version of the List of MFIs along with monthly updates is also published on the last business day of each calendar month in the "MFIs and assets" section of the ECB's website.

A hard copy of the latest version of the List of MFIs can be obtained from any of the EU national central banks.
