What I particularly like about my work at the ECB

For me, working for the ECB means having the chance to contribute to Europe every single day, and this gives me a great sense of purpose. It is one reason why my job is so interesting. What also makes working at the ECB so fascinating is the diversity of the people you meet, from all over Europe, and all the different languages you hear every day.

Being on the Graduate Programme gives me the chance to work in two completely different areas. I am currently in the Press Office, while for my second year I will be moving to the Directorate General Market Operations. It’s a great opportunity to explore all facets of what the ECB does, and it helps you build a network of contacts. On another note, the ECB invests considerable time and resources on personal development and training, which is fantastic!

How my work makes a difference

In my work in the Global Media Relations Division, I try to enhance the public’s knowledge and understanding of what the ECB does to maintain price stability. To me, this is a very satisfying job. On a daily basis I interact with journalists on a wide range of topics concerning the ECB; I also inform colleagues about what is making the news and the public perception of certain aspects related to the ECB (mostly monetary policy). It’s just as important for the outside world to understand what the ECB does as it is for my colleagues within the ECB to know what is going on in the media.

What I like about Frankfurt

Frankfurt is not the cold Bankfurt that some people think it is. It actually has the feel of a small city, with lovely neighbourhoods and plenty of cafés and bars, where almost everything is within walking distance. During lunchtime, I often go for a jog along the river with the ECB’s Running Club.

In my spare time I enjoy going to the theatre. For my foreign friends, there is also the English Theatre and a cinema where they can enjoy plays or movies in English.

All these social and cultural opportunities make Frankfurt a very personable city, full of life.
