What I particularly like about my work at the ECB

I joined the ECB from the Banco de España almost eight years ago. Coming to the ECB seemed to be a natural step in my career. Since then, I have continued growing and developing professionally within the ECB, taking advantage of the opportunities that my job has to offer and managing the associated challenges thanks to the great support of my team.

People here work with you closely, helping you to become a better professional; you build strong relationships with many business areas, which often have quite distinct perspectives. This has helped me to be open minded, as I have got to know people from various backgrounds and learned about their values. I enjoy the diversity of the teams and appreciate the effort people put into delivering projects together, as well as their keen interest in helping you to develop your skills for the benefit of the whole team.

I still remember clearly the first time I had to present a technical report in front of a senior audience at the ECB. I was rather nervous, yet I learned a lot from the advice that my coordinator at the time gave me, and from the feedback I received after the presentation. I gained new ideas and discovered how to make my presentation more interesting and easier to understand for the audience. In fact, communication is one of the fields where I have not stopped learning since I joined the ECB, from day one right through to now.

How my work makes a difference

In my work I get to contribute to some of the most relevant issues that are discussed at the ECB, including those related to non-standard policy measures. My team contributes by providing information from a financial risk management perspective, which may seem rather technical and specific, but it helps provide the decision-making bodies with the full picture to enable them to take fully informed decisions.

It is a privilege, and also a great responsibility, to contribute with my work to the process of shaping policy measures that have such a marked impact on the state of the euro area economy.

What I like about Frankfurt

Outside work, I enjoy living in Frankfurt with my wife and two young children. There are a lot of opportunities and facilities on offer in the city, and young families are welcome everywhere. The ECB also offers a lot of support for families, including a crèche (kindergarten) and the European school, which makes the ECB a great place to work when you have a family.
